Welcome to NAC websiteIn 2001, Zambia was one of the 189 members of United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) who signed a declaration of the commitment to take action on HIV and AIDS in the areas of leadership, prevention, treatment care and support, reducing vulnerability and upholding human rights. To this effect, Zambia now boasts of being in the international spotlight for the introduction of free ARVs in 2005 as well as conducting clinical trials of three (3) Zambian herbal medicines for the persons living with HIV and AIDS (PLHAs). This has had significant positive implications for the epidemiology of HIV and AIDS.
Still in the midst of such an epidemic, it is important to remember that 84% of people aged 15-49 remain uninfected with HIV and have the opportunity to take measures to protect themselves and help stop the spread of the virus. This is why a strong response to the epidemic from all sectors of Zambian society is critically important.
Therefore, the information on this site relates to the progress made in the multi-sectoral response in Zambia and it draws from a wide range of challenges and accomplishments encountered in our quest to fight the epidemic in Zambia. In addition we have also included information on various publications and reports on HIV and AIDS.
We hope that you will find this site as a useful source of information and serve a valuable resource for HIV and AIDS in Zambia. Please take a moment to explore the information available on the site and see areas in which you can get involved. This will be an important step in the joint effort to fight the pandemic.
